The Official WAA Definition of Web Analytics:

Web Analytics is the measurement, collection, analysis and reporting of Internet data for the purposes of understanding and optimizing Web usage.

WAA Finland - Local matters

Web Analytics Association branch in Finland started in late 2006 its main quest being the building of the Web Analytics awareness in Finland. Initially, mainly driven by the country Manager Kalle Heinonen and intl. Co-chair Steve Jackson the WAA operations were mainly focused in event management by arranging Web Analytics Wednesday events. The International chapter of the Web Analytics Association is piloting the development of a board of directors in each member country (an initiative by Finnish WAA) which will follow the organizational structure set-up in the US. The first pilot of this structure is to be in Finland. A number of one year and two year board terms will be available beginning in April 2008.

The purpose of these boards will be to unite and foster the interests of industry practitioners, vendors, consultants and educators who use, sell, install, implement, consult, teach or train in the field of web analytics in each country. A primary responsibility of board directors is to participate in the development of policy and major decision-making at board meetings held at least four times a year. Another key responsibility is to be active on an ongoing basis in a committee of the board.

Petri Mertanen, CEO of Naviatech was elected the 2009 WAA Finland Chair.

A Global Perspective

In each region of the globe, there are a diverse set of issues, priorities and trends that require different approaches and perspectives. With your help, the international committee will facilitate the expansion of each WAA committee to regional markets, promoting international involvement in all facets of web analytics, ensuring that our industry has a global voice. If the Web Analytics Association includes volunteers from around the world, we will not only have representation of multiple regions, but we will also have the opportunity to identify multi-national trends that may affect world wide markets, such as legislative issues that could have a major affect on world wide standards.

Key Activities:

Help us build a foundation of experts in all major international markets to:

  • Build consensus around issues that pertain to your regional area or country.
  • Create an international community to tap into world wide expertise.
  • Work with members to build a centralized area of resources for regional issues around the globe.
  • Get involved to determine how web analytics should comply with privacy issues unique to Europe, the U.S. and other countries.
  • Determine which standards require regional approaches.
